The Nanaimo Lions Club has completed a great number of projects in the community. Some of the more significant one are shown below.

Lions Great Bridge
The Lions Great Bridge built over the Millstone River connecting the Harbourside walkway with Maffeo Sutton Park. The cost of this project was over $500.000 dollars and countless volunteer man-hours by the Lions Club members. Lions Club Member Al Brett was the member who spearheaded this and it was his vision that made it happen.
Much of the funding for this project was raised by selling memorial and family bricks to the public, businesses and corporations in Nanaimo. The fund raising was a huge task but with the cooperation of all Nanaimo and many volunteer hours it was done and will be enjoyed by thousands in the years to come.
Along with the Lions Great Bridge the Club has constructed two additional pedestrian bridges, one across the Millstone River in Bowen Park and the other in Beach Estates Wild Flower Park.

Lions Pavilion
The Lions Pavilion built in Maffeo Sutton Park was another significant project undertakaen by our club. The Vision research and planning of this project was done by Lions Club member, Bob Rowledge. The pavilion costs were in excess of $250,000 and much of the funding was raised by sellingt plaques to Corporations, Business and Families. The Pavilion is used throughout the year for major events such as the Bathtub Races and Empire Days. Band concerts use the facility on a
daily basis during the summer months. To book this facility reservations can be made through Nanaimo Parks and Recreation.

Nanaimo Lions Place
Nananimo Lions Place is a 26 Unit subsidized housing complex. Nanaimo Lions Club saw the need for this type of housing years ago and with funding through CHMC made it happen. A Board of Directors comprised of Lions Club Members manage the complex, looking after all rental applications, maintenance and budgets. The complex never has a vacancy and it provides important, affordable housing for low income families.

Nanaimo Lions Manor

This home was built by the Club near Beban Park many years ago as a residence for mentally challenged children and served this group for many years. When the need for the facility was reassessed it was converted to a women’s shelter and is used for this purpose now.

Duck Pond and Animal Farm Bowen Park
This project was built for the Cedar 4H Club to have a variety of animal at the farm for both adults and children to enjoy during the summer months.

Lacrosse Boxes
Two Lacrosse Boxes were built by the Club. One next to the Curling Rink in Bowen Park and the other in Harewood. This photo is the Lacrosse Box next to the Curling Rink.
