FUNDRAISING
The Nanaimo Lions Club began it serious fundraising soon after its Charter. During the 1950’s the Club had a Minstrel Show taking that production as far as Port Angeles and the Lower Mainland. Other fundraisers in the past were Giant Bingos held in the Civic Arena, Ladies Diamond Dinners at Beban Park and Telethons which were broadcast by the Local T.V. Station of the day.
In recent years with the more and more organizations competing for the charitable dollar the club has turned increasingly to gaming activities as a mainstay of its fund raising activities. However, fundraising project that stand out today are the annual Christmas Tree Mulching and pickup and the Lions Flea Markets held at the Centennial Building. The Club also sells mints at various businesses along with selling Grey Cup Tickets each year. The Club also has a Serve it Right Program where we run the bars for individual social event such as weddings and for other organizations as well.
